Debt is one of those terrible 4 letter words. Overwhelming debt is responsible for the break up of countless marriages. Debt is the hidden culprit in unexplained sicknesses brought on by worry, guilt and too much stress. If you find yourself in overwhelming debt, your not alone.
People get themselves in debt for many different reason. Some people just do not know how to handle money. Many people do not realize the a credit card is not really cash. Some people have medical emergencies that come up. Perhaps the thought of a rainy day fund never seemed to important or the rainy day fund has dried up. Whatever the reason, Millions of people are wallowing in overwhelming debt.
I live in Michigan, the car capital of the world. With the present economical situation our area has been hit extremely hard. It is not just that the factories are cutting back on their work force but complete factories are closing. That in itself would be devastating to a community but it does not stop there. All of those who supplied the car factories with the parts/materials have had to adjust to smaller orders. Many automotive suppliers have also shut their doors. It is that ripple effect.
With people no longer having disposable income many of the mom and pop shops have boarded up their doors and windows as well. People are packing up and leaving the Sate looking for work else where, that will effect the taxes as well as the declining student enrollment. A true ripple effect.
It was just a few years ago that car factories were working 3 shifts to keep up with the demand. Workers were getting paid great wages and working over time too. Many adjusted to that lifestyle, not thinking that things could change.
Builders were building house like crazy. We are not talking small houses either. Builders were building huge homes in prestigious, spacious, new subdivisions. A minimum of 2 brand new cars were in the driveway, probably both were full size SUV’s. Then one day things changed, the credit card that already was carrying a big balance was now being used to get cash advances just to pay the light bill.
Any of this sound familiar?
I myself just got back from Michigan State University Veterinary Hospital with a totally unexpected $4,000.00 vet bill.
There are many reasons that people are in overwhelming debt. Overwhelming debt is everywhere. But what can we do about it?
The first step is to admit to the problem and the second thing is to make a list of ALL your outstanding debt. The first step is hard but the second step will make you sick. Seeing your overwhelming debt on paper in black and white will hopefully make you realize that something must be done. You just can’t continue going on like this.
